Rose Blache & The Boy In The Sriped Pyjamas
Two novels that are quite similar in topic as well as theme are Rose Blanche and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Both books are based around the fact that life is unfair, and there are always superior people who get their way, even though most often they are not very good people.
Personally, I do believe that it is right to risk bringing such danger on one’s relatives and friends by challenging the forces of law and order, if it means being able to save someone else’s life. As we read in that one poem in class, if you don’t speak out for other people, when it comes time for the killers to kill you, if you didn’t speak out for anyone, there won’t be anybody left to speak out for you. But contrasting on this theory, it really all depends on the individual courage of the person. As for me, there is no way that I would be able to speak up for something as large as this issue. And bringing a wanted person into my home? NO WAY! But for the hero’s like Thesus and Hercules, this would be no problem. And for the villagers of Le Chambon, bonded together as a community, they are so strong, and accomplished so much, but individually I’m not sure if they would have been so gutsy. So I really think that it depends on the person, if they are willing to take that risk or not.
The consequences of “just accepting the situation in which you find yourself, and everything will be so much easier” (Boyne 53), is the fact that millions of people around you are being killed, and you’re not doing anything about it. Everything is fine for you if you just relax and sit back, but you really have to consider about what other people are going through. However, it takes an enormous amount of courage to actually stand up. For me personally, I would be unhappy to sit back and watch it all go on, but there’s no way that I would actually be able to do something about it.
I do believe that in seventh grade we should continue to study the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, or at least the holocaust. I do think that it is very important for students to learn about their past. Why? Well I think that it is very important to learn about, so students can see all the negative consequences, to prevent anything like this ever happening again. It is in our generation’s job to turn the world around, with not only saving the planet, but also to achieve world peace, and eliminate poverty. This book produces a lot of knowledge about the holocaust, so children will be able to learn through this book, as well as using web and book resources to find out all about this awful event. It is necessary for kids to read these things, for the safety and well being of our future life.
